Art Liaison

Our PTA Art Liaison works closely with Mrs. Lyon to fulfill the needs of the Art Room volunteers.  This person plans and organizes Art Day in the spring.  This committee identifies projects and works on ways to enhance the physical appearance of our school.  This entails a yearlong commitment of about an hour a month.

Book Fair/Media Center

The Book Fair/Media Center Chair help the Media Center order books from Book Fair vendor, set up merchandise, recruit volunteers, oversee book fair and then break down displays for both the fall and spring book sales.  Book Fair Volunteers are needed to help set up merchandise, assist children with their selections or are cashiers at our very popular book fair.  Shifts are typically two hours long.  The Media Center Chair also coordinates volunteers for Media Center help, like shelving books, bulletin boards, etc.  Works closely with Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Buckley.

Box Tops/Labels for Education

Our Box Top/Labels for Education chairperson promotes and coordinates Box Tops and Labels collection in the fall and spring.  The chair enlists volunteers to help count all the box tops.  Most of the work for this committee can be done at home.

Community Outreach

This committee works with the our sister school, Hollydale Elementary, to organize coat, food and book drives, and engages the Shallowford community in the spirit of giving back.  Chairperson works closely with Room Parent Coordinators to organize the Holiday Giveback program.  Commitment for our Community Outreach committee is a few hours a month.

Dad’s Volunteer Group

We are always looking for a few great dads!  This Dad's Group committee helps with occasional landscaping projects and school beautification around school.  This is also a social networking community for our Dad's!  Commitment is a few hours every few months.

Environmental Committee

The Environmental Committee promotes environmental awareness among school community (students, staff and parents) through coordinated activities.  This includes supporting the Science Lab with environmental projects (school garden, nature trail).   Activities include: National Walk to School Day (October), Clean Commute Week (October), No Idling Week (November), GA Walk to School Day (March), and Earth Day (April)

Exceptional Children

This committee organizes the Exceptional Children’s Week in February.  Generally, a speaker is arranged and awareness about exceptionalities is promoted by this committee.  

Fall Festival and Movie Night

The Fall Festival and Movie Night committee helps to organize the annual Fall Festival and Movie Night.  Duties include booking vendors, set up and clean up at the event, organizing games and coordinating volunteers.  

Family Dance

This committee organizes the Family Dance held in January.  Most of the work can be done at home.  The chairperson would need to be present at the event.

Fifth Grade Celebration

This committee is comprised of 5th grade parents who plan the 5th Grade Celebration.  The committee also prepares a 5th Grade Memory Book to be distributed to all 5th grade families, as well as a 5th grade slideshow.

Fox Print Editor

The Fox Print is a quarterly newsletter for school communications purposes.  The Editor would have to collect articles and design the newsletter.  All of the work can be done from home.

Fox Trot Fun Run

The Fox Trot Fun Run committee organizes and coordinates our annual fundraiser, the Fox Trot Fun Run. This committee works alongside our Vice President of Ways and Means.

Health & Wellness

This committee works to keep our Shallowford kids fit and healthy by sponsoring school-wide health and wellness programs.  Programs include:  Walk to School and Munch a Healthy Lunch week.

Heroes Essay Contest

The contest provides student an opportunity to write an essay honoring someone who has made an impact on his/her life.  This committee advertises the contest, organizes the judges and announces the winners.  Most of the work could be done from home.

Hospitality

Hospitality works to support our teachers and staff through out the year, reminding them how much they mean to all of us. This includes the pre-planning lunch before school starts, Newcomers Coffee, TOTY and CEOTY awards, Teacher Appreciation Week and "We Love Our Staff Luncheon" and Bagel Break.  There are a lot of areas for adding events through the year and we have lots of volunteers throughout the year.  Recognizes professional holidays throughout the year. This includes teacher birthdays (this year we did the anonymous gift giving), Bus Driver Appreciation, Support Professional Day, Principal and Assistant Principal Birthdays, Nurse's Day, etc.  In the past we have done gift cards, a breakfast, flower arrangements and more. There is a good deal of flexibility in this role and you can make it what you want!

Ice Cream Social

Organizes the annual ice cream social and PTA membership drive in August.  Most of the work can be done outside of school, must be present on the day of the event.

Reflections

Reflections is a national PTA art contest that takes place in the fall.  The chairperson and committee is responsible for promoting the contest, collecting the entries, setting up local judges, and making sure the entries get to the county. No creativity needed for this position!  The contest is held in the fall, so most of the work is in October.  Work can be done at home.

Room Parent

The chair for this committee holds an informational training session for all Room Parents at the beginning of the year, then runs a room parent meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.  Room parents help the classroom teacher with special projects, preparing for class parties and helping to organize field trips.  Time commitment varies by grade level and teacher.  Much of the work can be done at home.

Spirit Nights

Works with our community partners in setting up fundraising events, such as Chick-fil-a night and Yogli Mogli night. Most of the work is done outside school hours.

Yearbook

The yearbook committee is responsible for gathering classroom pictures throughout the year and designing the layout of the yearbook.  Aside from taking pictures, much of the work can be done at home.
